Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Communications will be responsible for strategic development and implementation of internal and external communications which includes public relations, community relations and government relations and internal communications for the Orthopaedics division. The focus will be in building strong relationships with key constituents in local, national and international markets.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage Communications Team and develop comprehenisve approach to communication management and brand management.

Lead division and product PR plans to support patient education and brand enhancement programs.

Coach communication team and product managers on PR processes in concert with marketing teams and other communications functions.

Establish strong relationships with market product managers, agencies and company executives.

Develop communication plans to help manage crisis/issues internally and externally.

Serve as an adviser on media issues and oversee media interface and all media training.

Measure and evaluate effectiveness of communication programs.

Serve as the principle interface with the media, including oversight of the public relations firms retained by the division.

Prepare and review all internal and externally facing messaging to ensure consistency with the company’s mission and values.

Conceptualize and implement high-impact communications that help build the Stryker brand and support the company's business objectives.
Develop and manage operating budget and complete all other assigned duties

Qualifications/Work Experience QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field required with 10-plus years' related experience.

Five or more years specifically in pharmaceutical, biotech or healthcare public relations/marketing role within a corporate or agency setting including extensive crisis/issues management communications experience.

Experience managing communications/public relations professionals and agencies is critical.

Proven ability to develop, oversee and implement division and brand PR.

Must have demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with national and international media in both proactive and crisis situations preferably in a healthcare/pharmaceutical company environment.

Must have experience in managing communication programs, issues/crises, public relations agencies and budgets.

Significant experience in writing wide range of communications materials. Experience in dealing with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating to external audiences in a highly regulated industry/environment.

Self-starter with experience-based judgment.
